Mr. Ruby-throated Hummingbird in all of his brilliance glitters like a jewel in the morning sunshine. There were nine hummers sparring for sugar water at my feeder this morning. Only one mature male and he was kind enough to pose briefly for my camera. These precision-flying little birds are as quick and unpredictable as anything I have ever seen. It's amazing to watch them maneuver for a sip of nectar as the feeder bully tries to fend them off with attacks of buzzing wing beats. I'm thankful these critters don't weight five pounds; they'd rule the earth.
