Wow! With the rut in full swing there's lots of elk action in Boxley Valley going on right now. There are four herds in the valley that I'm aware of. Ponca Access, Waymon Villines field, 43/21 Intersection field and the Barn field at the south end of the valley. There has been strong rutting action at each of the fields, but it seems the Ponca Access and 43/21 Intersection fields have been the best in the last few days. Ponca Access has the most popular bull: The Drop-tine 6x7 (pictured below). Villines field has a solid 6x6, the 43/21 Intersection field has a really big 6x6 and 2-3 smaller 6x6's and a 5x5. The south end field is home to the prettiest bull in the valley, a 7x8 with a coat hook on his left side. Please, be respectful of the landowners and other elk watchers when you're in the valley and most importantly, have fun and be safe.
