Indigo Bunting

The Indigo Bunting with its indigo head and cerulean body is one of the most magnificently colored birds in our area. The color is nearly unbelievable! This sparrow-sized seed eater is migratory and ranges from southern Canada to Florida during breeding season and from Florida to South America during winter. It's a true pleasure to see them appear, even though it's for a short time. This particular image was taken in my yard, on top of the mountain overlooking Ponca.
