Elk Dippin'

The elk action in Boxley Valley had been almost nonexistent for nearly a week, but the herd has reappeared at the north end of the valley. The first and second fields south of Ponca Access are the current grazing grounds for what is the main herd in the valley. The herd bull is a solid 6x6 with the G1 & G2 tines missing from his left antler. I didn't witness it, but it's evident that he lost them fighting for dominance of the herd. With the herd hanging out near Ponca Access, there is strong possibility of seeing them visit the Buffalo River for a drink and a dip. This shot taken Thursday (10-20-16) afternoon shows just that, the herd bull with one cow and four calves as they wade into the clear waters of the Buffalo. Please, be safe and considerate if you visit the valley.
